He was predeceased by: his parents, Margaret Barber and Arvin Barber; and his siblings, Allen Barber, Marlene Scholl, Beverly Heikema and Karen Dursema.

He is survived by: his significant other Wendy Skorupa; his significant other's child Jamie; his grandson Braylyn; his son James Jr. Barber; his grandson Jesse Barber; his sisters, Diane Arnold (Michael) and Sandy Earl (Steve); and his friend Doug Murphy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
