He was predeceased by: his parents, James Kirks, Sr. and Velmer Dean Kirks; his siblings, Eddie Kirks, Sr. and Irene Williams; his half-sister Clara Harris; his sons, Larry Kirk, Tommy Kirk, Donald Kirk and Dennis Kirk; his stepson Rommy Butler; and his daughter Mavis Kirk.
He is survived by: his children, James Kirk, Jr., David L. Kirk, Richey Kirk, Monica Ingram (Nathan) and Karen Wynn (Steve); and also Dan Boykins. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and a host of family members.
