He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Dodds and Mabel Dodds (Lawrence); his former wife Mona Lou Tompkins-Dodds; his son Otto Tompkins Dodds; and his brother Charles Dodds.

He is survived by: his wife Dorena Dodds; and his sons, Fred Dodds (Debbie) of Florida and Howard "Gene" Jr. Dodds (Tammy) of Virginia.
