He was predeceased by: his parents, William J. Shields and Dorothy V. Shields (Suchon); his wife Peg O'Toole (Margaret); his siblings, William and Dorothy; and his son-in-law Edwin Haase.
He is survived by: his children, Sheryl Haase, MaryBeth Berry (Charlie), Peggy Newham (Bill), Thomas Shields (Annette), Kevin Shields (Deanna), Lawrence Shields (Diane), Kenneth Shields (Karen), Joseph Shields (Kristin), Dorothy Shields, Maureen Petrovich (David) and Margaret Pitcel; and his siblings, Patrick, Raymond, Louis (George) and Kathleen Gallivan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude the Apostle Memorial Garden in Oak Grove, MO, or Saint Luke's Home Care and Hospice, Kansas City, MO.
