He was predeceased by: his parents, Ambrose Welbes and Helen Welbes (Kloss); his wife Sandy; and his brothers, Kenneth and David.

He is survived by: his children, Robert Welbes (Roxanne) and Amber Welbes; his grandson Jake Rosema; and his siblings, Martin Welbes (Vickie) and Carlene Horness (Roger). He is also survived by many family members and friends.

Memorial Contributions in Gerald's honor can be directed to the family for funeral expenses.
