He was predeceased by: his parents, George Gardenour and Dorothy Gardenour; his brother Gary; and his siblings-in-law, Dorothy Tazelaar and Walter Tazelaar.

He is survived by: his daughter Michelle Boertman (P. J.); his grandchildren, Hunter and Makayla; his son Christopher Gardenour (Amanda); his sister Wendy Swanson (Kirk); and his siblings-in-law, Cindy Brown (Matt), Dennis Tazelaar, Flora Tazelaar and Kathy Gardenour.
