Bernard David Degraves Obituary

Bernard D. DeGraves, 83, passed away on November 3, 2021. He was born on January 10, 1938 in Muskegon, Michigan to Peter and Adrianna DeGraves.
Bernard married his love, E. Jeanette DeGraves, on October 10, 1959 and the couple spent many wonderful years together. He held many occupations throughout his life. Bernard worked for the Fruitport Department of Public Works doing installation for the Water Department. He also owned and operated Bernie's Small Engine repair in Fruitport Township. Bernard served his community on the Fruitport Township Fire Department for 27 years. He would then retire from Fruitport Community Schools after 22 years as a maintenance man. He was affiliated with Olivet Reformed Church. He loved being outdoors and camping. He liked to ride his quad and his Harley, which he rode until he was 75 years old. He was well known for his beautiful vegetable garden on Sheridan Road in Fruitport. Bernard was a great father, grandfather, husband, uncle, neighbor, and friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.

Bernard was preceded in death by: wife, E. Jeanette DeGraves; parents, Peter J. DeGraves and Adrianna (Bax) DeGraves; and grandson, Kyle.

Bernard is survived by: son, David (Nancy) DeGraves; daughter, Lynn (Roger) Welmerink; grandchildren, Peter (Desiree), Holly (Jason), Paul (Ashley), Kimberly (Christian), Adrianna (Josh), and Rebecca (James); great grandchildren, Christopher and James; brother, Clarence (Barb) DeGraves; as well as, sister, Donna (John) Schmidt.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 11:00 am at Ever Rest Funeral Home and Chapel, 1783 E. Keating Ave. Muskegon, Michigan 49442. A Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
