He was predeceased by: his parents, George Berntson and Bertha Berntson (Aune); and his siblings, Bergine Westby, Lillian Clemens, Gordon Berntson, Rudy Berntson, Malvina Moe and Luther Berntson.

He is survived by: his wife Catherine Berntson; his sons, Eric Berntson (Gail) and Ross Berntson (Julie); his grandchildren, Sarah, Olivia, Nathaniel, Andrew and Benjamin; and his sister Carol Haugen.
