He was predeceased by: his parents, Maxwell Sheaffer and Geraldine Sheaffer (Kiefer); his brother James "Jimmy" Sheaffer; and his grandson Richard Allan Hawley II. He is survived by: his wife Diane Sheaffer of Muir; his children, Gary Sheaffer II (Kendra) of Wyandotte, Brenda Hawley (Rich) of Grand Rapids, Paula Linse (Jerry) of Great Falls, MO and Lora Batchelor (Charles) of Shiloh, GA; his siblings, Richard "Dick" Sheaffer (Sandy) of Muir and Carol Sheaffer; his grandchildren, Gary "Tripp", Chase, Emily, Hayley and Brandy; and his great grandchildren, Brody and Taylor.
