He was predeceased by: his parents, Medard Maurice Claus and Martha Batallie Claus; his brother Maurice; and his brother-in-law Mark Weir. He is survived by: his wife Jean; his daughters, Jennifer Claus (Sean Moore) and Anna "Mickey" Claus-Egger (Kenneth Egger); his stepdaughter Kara Dueweke (Neil); his grandchildren, Archer, Jonathan Moore, Mackenzie, Jordyn Egger, Nicholas and Jackson Dueweke; his sister Marilyn McCombs; his brother-in-law James McCombs (Chris Thomson); and his nephew Wesley Weir (Kelsey).
The family suggests that donations made in his memory benefit organizations supporting the care of animals or preservation of natural areas to benefit wildlife, such as HATS in Mt. Pleasant, Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation, and the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy.
