She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Markel and Marjorie Markel (Rininger); her husband Robert; and her brother Lawrence Markel. She is survived by: her sister Iola Borton (Wally); her sister-in-law Catherine Markel; her children, Jeffery Ort (Barbara), Jeanie Thompson (Scott) and Kristy Collins (Rick); and her friend Helen Brown.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in honor of Barbara can be made to Hospice of Lenawee.
