He was predeceased by: his father Gordon Axtell; his wife Marie Axtell; his sister Barbara Brandt; and his son-in-law Terry Goodman. He is survived by: his close friend Billy Persails; his children, Linda Fortenberry (Terry), Gary Axtell, Nancy Goodman, James Axtell and John Axtell (Tina); his grandchildren, Chad, Brad (Megan), Scott, Richard (Krista), Randy (Kelli), Shelley, Johnathon (Kaitlyn), Daniel (Jacqueline) and Vinnie; and his great grandchildren, Austen, Braden, Zoie, Lucas, Cameron, Tanner, Carleigh, Stella, Phoebe and James.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the family for future designation.
