He was predeceased by: his son-in-law John Palmer; his siblings, Vernon, Eugene, Ronald Carpenter, Helen Carpenter and Joan Grinnell; his siblings-in-law, Robert Grinnel, Thomas Brown, Dale Dillon, Arthur Jr., Larry Berlin and Marilyn Carpenter (Betty Carpenter); and his nephews, Larry and Timorthy Berlin.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Berlin Powell; his children, Robin Keene (Tony) of Swartz Creek, Lewis (Ronnie Powell), Richard Powell of Kingston, Scott Carpenter of Mayville, Mike (Jennifer Carpenter) and Dolly Palmer of Mayville; his grandchildren, Joshua McIntosh (Shelby) of Flint, Jacqueline Keene of Swartz Creek, Shelby Powell of Flint, Zachary Powell (Kali) of Mayville, Mason, Anessah Bradley of Reese, Gerilyn, Evan Carpenter of Silverwood, Cody Pyles (Lauren) of Silverwood and Mark Fryers of Mayville; his great grandchildren, Parker, Remington and Matilda; his sisters, Marilyn Brown of Sandusky and Nancy Dillon of Lapeer; his sisters-in-law, Glenda Berlin of Caro and Geneva Carpenter of Lapeer; and also Betty DeRosia of Mayville. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
