He was predeceased by: his wife Lila; his parents, Richard W. Ellis and Alice Booth Ellis; and his siblings, Alice, Lyle, Sherman, Faith, Frank, Beverly, David and Douglas.
He is survived by: his children, Daniel Ellis, Jr. (Deborah), Barbara Crawford (Donald), Richard Ellis (Carol) and Casey Ellis (Christen); his siblings, Frances Stutesman, Rosemary Hoffman and Joe Ellis; and his stepchildren, Diana Brown (Tim), Marjorie Amidon, Lowell Bailey, Jr. (Hope), Julia Stacy, Ron Bailey (Brenda) and Robert Bailey. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oscoda County Commission on Aging.
