We are sad to announce that on May 26, 2024, at the age of 86, Murphy Shelby Mathews of Midland, Michigan, born in Brewton, Alabama passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by : his parents, Shelby Mathews and Charlotte Mathews (Durden); his wife Mary Lee Mathews; his son Jeffrey Mathews; his sister Hilda Kent (Warren); and his son Geoffrey Armstrong.

He is survived by : his daughter Michelle Mathews of Los Angeles, CA; his brother Jack Mathews (Michaela) of Nashville, Tennessee.; his daughter Teresa Cherry (Michael); and his grandchildren, Malik DeCruise, Michael Cherry, Jr. and Arica Cherry.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 17th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Lansing Community of Christ Church (1514 W Miller Rd, Lansing, MI 48911). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 17th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Campus Ministry Center or Hot Dog Wednesday Outreach, in care of the Community of Christ Church at the above address. Keep Murphy's legacy alive by donating to a charity in need.
