He was predeceased by: his parents, James J. Balten Sr. and Geraldine Balten (Schill); his brother Gerald R. Balten; his parents-in-law, Ronald E. Grogan and Donna Grogan; and his brothers-in-law, Michael Grogan and Ronald Grogan.
He is survived by: his wife Cathy; his children, Jennifer Thompson (Mark), James Balten III (Jen), Julie Balten (Mike Vantzelfden) and Jodie Harmsen (Scott); his grandchildren, Paige, Connor Thompson, James, Samuel Balten, Kash Vantzelfden, Kaden and Kelsey Harmsen; and his brothers, Robert M. Balten (Mary) and Thomas S. Balten.
He was a long-time member of Ducks Unlimited and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
