He was predeceased by: his daughter Angela Marie Butts; and his father Merel "Bud" Butts. He is survived by: his mother Rose M. "Rosie" Butts (LaFollette) of Hudson; his wife Dawn M. Aldrich; his children, Cory Butts (Jenny) of Lillington, NC, Natasha Feller (Gab) of Jackson, Joshua Butts (Misty) of Blissfield, Katelyn Hoard (Lance) of Waldron, Jennifer Butts of Adrian and Tyler Butts of Jerome; his stepchildren, Trevor Buehrer (Ashley) of Homer and Kaila Branfield (Nick) of Fort Wayne; and his brothers, Dick Butts (Tammy), Brad Butts (Stephanie), Mike Butts, Mark Butts (Lori), Matt Butts (Barb) and Brook Butts. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
