He was predeceased by: his parents, Russel Sutherland and Evelyn Sutherland (Lewis); his son Jason Sutherland; and his sisters, Barb Potter, Gloria Matthews and Elizabeth Sutherland.

He is survived by: his wife Tammy Joe Sutherland; his children, Timi Kay and Richard Sutherland (Dana); his grandchildren, Tylor, Takota, Tate, Ashtin Kay, Kendra, Jason, Russel "Rut" Sutherland III and Eric Sutherland; his great grandchild Mason Kay; and his sister Nancy Hackney.
