He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald Adolphus Spies Sr. and Lillian June Spies (Houston); his cousin Richard A. Spies (Dick); his wife Joyce Spies (Smith); his daughter Julie; and his close friend JoAnn Wheeler.
He is survived by: his close friend Mike Kaufman; and also, Thomas Spies (Amy), Barbara Labus (Paul), Christopher Spies (Cindy), Patricia Menor (Tom) and John Spies (Dana). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
