He was predeceased by: his parents, Eino Kaarto and Helen Kaarto (Willman); his sister Marie Alapert (Kaarto); and his siblings-in-law, Charlotte Kaarto, Norman Alapert and Norman Juntunen.
He is survived by: his wife Lucy Cleland; his sons, Shawn Cleland (Laurie) of Ironwood, Kenny Kaarto (Corrie) of Mass City and Brian Kaarto (Lisa) of Mass City; his grandchildren, Destiny, Amber, Tessa, Tyler Cadence, Noah, Kayle and Ailee; his great grandchildren, Conner, Ava, Noah, Carter and Wyatt; and his siblings, Norman Kaarto, Florence Sandve (Ron), Jeanette Juntunen, Joyce Liuska (Donald) and Doris Carlson (Dave). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
