He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawton Bement and Myrtle Bement (Apsey); his brother Max; his grandmother Apsey; his brother Rex; his parents-in-law, Oscar and Charity Bergland; and his nephew Terry Bement.
He is survived by: his friend Jewett; his cousin Mary Lou; his friends, Garrold and Bernadine Townsend; his wife Christen Bement (Bergland); his daughters, Anne Hudgins (Jim) of Mason, Jean Bement of Mason and Mary Ivanov (Ivan) of Muskegon; his grandchildren, Mary O'Connor (Derek), Nicholas Hudgins (Marissa Buehler), Emilie Hudgins (Noah Heichel), Ana and Luka Ivanov; his nieces, Jann Lifsey and Jill Messing; his siblings-in-law, Melissa Burnham (Dan) and Eric Bergland (Sally); and his nephews, Michael Bement, Paul Burnham, Andy Burnham and Alan Bergland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given in Joe's memory to either Mason First United Methodist Church or the City Rescue Mission of Lansing.
