He was predeceased by: his parents, Goldie Mertz and Herb Mertz Sr.; and his son Scott. He is survived by: his wife Eva K. Toodzio; his children, Ed Mertz (Annie), Judy Dunn (Dale), Mary McNaughton, John Mertz and Jason Mertz (Kris); his uncle Bud; and his niece Carey Wilson (Paige). He is also survived by three brothers; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
