He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Kikstra and Lucille Kikstra (Nordyke); his sister Julie; and his brother-in-law Rick Noorman. He is survived by: his wife Ruth; his children, Carl Jr., Betsy Kikstra, Chad, Megan Kikstra, Cari, Joe Treacy, Dirk, Jennifer Kraai, Stacy Dean, Mike, Tammy Van Duinen, Todd, Shari Van Duinen and Rita Van Duinen; his grandchildren, Chloe, Sam, Ben Kikstra, Zoe, Liam Kikstra, Brooke, Chris Freeman, Ava Steggerda-Treacy and Tanner Treacy; his stepgrandchildren, Cole, Corin Kraai, Nathan Huizingh, Hope Dean, Luke, Zac, Courtney, Emilie, Henry Miller, Josh, Amanda, Matthew, Samantha, Andrew, Ava and Olivia; and his siblings, Mary, Gary Armstrong, Jim, Anne Kikstra and Laurie Noorman. He is also survived by six step-great grandchildren.
