He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Dixon Essex and Edith Francis Essex (Alden); and his brothers, Neil Essex and Lavern Essex. He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Kahler (Sue); his daughters, Kendra Essex of Marcellus, Stacey Essex-Miller (Troy) of Peru, Kimberly Essex-Brunner (Gordon) of Three Rivers and Megan Mikel (Cody) of Marcellus; his grandchildren, Kymera Brunner, Hunter Brunner, Brayton Young, Taylor Miller, Neil Miller, Carter Mikel and Camden Mikel; and his friends, Ron Swartz of Marcellus and Mark Hari of Marcellus. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Marcellus Community Schools girl's sports program or Cass County Council on Aging.
