He was predeceased by: his father Robert W. Bonter; his brother Kevin Bonter; and his pet Diesel. He is survived by: his mother Karen Bonter (Bauers); his daughters, Rachel Wilson (Daniel) of Warren, Heather Gilman (Phil) of Pellston and Samantha Bonter of Lima, Ohio; his stepdaughters, Courtney Koch (Ryan) of Monaca and Alyssa Beebe (Curt) of Shepherd; his stepfather Michael Krueger of Mackinaw City; his sisters, Dana Wenger of Mackinaw City and Heidi Cooper (Todd) of Mackinaw City; his nieces and nephews, Brianna Cleland of Cheboygan, Gavin Wenger of Cheboygan, Haeleigh of Mackinaw City and Holden Cooper of Mackinaw City; and his pet Bleu. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; and his mother.
