He was predeceased by: his parents, Max Joseph and Jane Irene Helm (Hanson). He is survived by: his wife Diana Smith; his son Max Helm (Alyssa) of Fullerton, CA; his siblings, Darlene Wade (Terry) of Litchfield and Mike Helm (Sue) of Coldwater; his siblings-in-law, Karen Smith of Palmetto, FL, Debra Eichler (Don) of Litchfield and Kevin Smith (Juli) of Jackson; and his grandson Owen Jeffrey Douglas Helm. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Litchfield Library or the VA Hospital in Battle Creek.
