He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth; his children, Christopher Schafer and Elizabeth Barragan; and his siblings, Robert Schafer, Jean Eberhart and Kenneth Schafer.
He is survived by: his daughter Margaret Schafer; his son-in-law Michael Barragan; his siblings, Dawn Windsor, Adele Dickleman and Earl Schafer; his grandchildren, Michael Barragan (Leslie), Stephanie Jaime (Luis), Matt Barragan (Rebekah) and Aren Paczesny (Lisa); and his great grandchildren, Ryan, Abigail, Grayce, Christopher, Nathan and Emily.
