He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Ostwald and Edith Ostwald (Striebich); his wife Judith Hilborn; his brother Ernest Ostwald Jr. (Ernie); and his siblings-in-law, Bernard LaHaie (Bud), Mary Olson and Myra Vokac (Susie).
He is survived by: his children, Reggie Ostwald (Jan) of Levering, MI and Theresa Collins (Chad) of Goshen, IN; his grandchildren, Kim Buselmeier (Andrew) of Canton, MI, Kevin Ostwald (Sarah Rogala) of Mackinaw City, MI and Charlie Collins of Ann Arbor, MI; his great grandchildren, Kailyn, Elowyn and Cora; his sister Helen LaHaie of Cheboygan, MI; and his siblings-in-law, Nancy Ostwald of Levering, MI and Harold Hilborn of Sault Ste. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorials could be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church or the Cheboygan County Humane Society.
