He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur G. Darnell and Virginia Darnell (Dodd); his grandparents, William and Sadie Darnell; his son Arthur K. Darnell, Jr.; his stepgreat-grandson Alex Worschech; his stepdaughter Gabriele Lehmeyer; and his siblings, J. W. Doty and Linda Marie Darnell.
He is survived by: his wife Annemarie Darnell of Lennon; his children, James Darnell of New York, Raimunda Darnell of Oregon, Natalie Phillips of Oregon and Shawn Darnell of Lennon; his stepdaughters, Elfriede Bulach of Munic, Carola Worschech (Alex) of Kitzingen and Monica Lehmeyer of Munich, Germany; and his siblings, Robert of St. Johns, Joan Dahl of Wisconsin, Sydneyann Dalton (Ron) of Grand Blanc and Edward Doty of Florida. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
