She was predeceased by: her parents, Ralph Houten and Hattie [Hoeksema] Van Houten; her husband Lawrence "Larry" Van Assen; her siblings, William, Warren (Eleanor), Robert, Cile Bode (Jay), Hilda Loeks (Harv) and Ethyl Sikkema (Cyril); and her brothers-in-law, Fred Van Assen, Roger Van Assen (Ellen) and Gerald Bogard.

She is survived by: her children, Ruth Haveman (Doug), Kathleen Marsman (Ross), Craig Van Assen (Suzanne) and Jayne Gilmer (Craig); her grandchildren, Christine Lesley (Kris), Scott Haveman (Lindsay), Keith Marsman (Jennifer), Chad Marsman (Teri), Jason Van Assen (Brooke), Deena Vroegindewey (Jeff), Matthew Gilmer (Corissa) and Michelle Veenstra (Jesse); her sister Gert Bogard; and her sister-in-law Joyce Van Houten. She is also survived by many great grandchildren.
