He was predeceased by: his parents, Douglas Preston and Jean Preston (Hotchkiss); and his sister Nita. He is survived by: his wife Lorene Preston (Lori); his children, Lisa Preston-Benett (Mike Schumacher), Robert Preston, Jr. (Jennifer) and Eric Preston (Tina); his stepchildren, Rebekah Adams (John), Carl Putnam (Shena), Jason Putnam (Megan) and Ron Putnam (Tammy); his grandchildren, Rhys, Roen, Allison (John), Gracie, Brenden (Ciarra), Jordan, Devon, Mariah, Kiara, Mikael, Kendall, Donavin, Jennifer, Bailey, Elijah, Ava, Evalynn and Mya; and his siblings, Georgie, Don, Sue, Max and Kim. He is also survived by many great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
