With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Yusuf A. El-Sulayman of Lansing, Michigan, who passed away on August 24, 2024 at the age of 77. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Carleton Barnette and Arleen Barnette; his former wife Khadijah; his cousin Khalil Abdul-Baith; his brother-in-law Ahmad; and his stepson Tyrone "Imani" Gridion.
He is survived by: his wife Diane; his children, Gibran (Ingrid Rhinehart), Halima, Jinnah (Rashid Abdur-Rahim), Tahira (Hasan Sakacali), Muhammad and Hamzah; his sister Becki (Sterling Armstrong); his grandchildren, Ahmed, Bilal, Khalil, Khadijah, Isabelle, Grace, Eve, Hediye, Yusuf, Musa, Zahra and Maryam; his nephew Sterling; his niece Kara Armstrong; his stepdaughters, Tina and Tiffany Gridiron; and his stepgrandchildren, Vivienne and Taylor Smith.
Yusuf made significant contributions to the Greater Lansing Islamic Center and the local Muslim community.
