He was predeceased by: his parents, John G. Peterson and Verna G. Peterson (Howe); and his siblings, Carl Peterson, Stanley "Bucky" Peterson and Vivian Williams.

He is survived by: his wife Joan (Foster); his children, Laurie Walters, Randy Peterson (Angie) and Dawn Phillips (Thomas); his grandchildren, Chara, Nathan, Elijah, Levi, Titus, Aleia, Hannah and Abigail; his brothers, Martin (Beverly), Jack (Nila) and Russell Peterson (Sue); and his sister-in-law Alberta Peterson.

Memorial contributions may be made in Thomas's honor to his church, Calvary Baptist Church.
