Sally Jane (Rathbun) Nessel Obituary
Sally Jane (Rathbun) Nessel passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2022 in Lansing, Michigan, surrounded by family and the love she taught each of us to share every day of her life.
Sally was born on September 13, 1944 to Donald Otis And Beatrice Eleanor Pearl (Schafer) Rathbun. Even from an early age, Sally cherished the love of family, making memories with her parents, sister Carol, brother Bobbie, and dearest cousin Karen and Karen’s brothers, Ron and Jim, as well as her precious Aunt Nellie Romprey.
On May 6, 1964, Sally married the love of her life, Harold Alanson Nessel. Hal (Lan) and Sally had three children, Lynne, Susan and Brian.
Faith, hope and love were the foundation on which Hal and Sally taught their children to live their lives. Sally dedicated her 77 years on this Earth to her love of family. Her compassion for others was illustrated through her loving affirmation for her loved ones and every person who crossed her path. She was the embodiment of pure, unconditional love that extended to her parents, siblings and extended family, her children, dear friends, and her precious grandchildren. She lived for others, and as a result was, and always will be, the light in our lives.
Sally is survived by her children, Lynne Anne Marroquin and her husband Chris, Susan Marie Clark, Brian Scott Nessel and his wife, Leslie, and Julie Ann Griggs; sister, Carol Fites and her husband, Larry; cousin, Karen Moore, and her husband Glenn; Sister-in-laws, Patricia Edwards and Pam Arens; nieces and nephews, Erin, Leigh, Kristen, Holly, Jaimie, Brandon, Kevin, Jeremy, Cameron, Logan, and Finley; and the light of her life, her grandchildren, Michael, Brittany, Allyson, Evan, Alexander, Megan, Ashley, Justin, Cameron, Harrison, Trey, and Caleb.
Sally has joined, in their celebration of eternal life in Heaven, her loving, dedicated husband, Harold Alanson Nessel Jr. and his parents Harold Sr. and Iris Nessel; her parents, Donald and Beatrice Rathbun; her brother Robert Rathbun; her special aunt, Nelda Romprey, and her precious grand baby, Evan Nessel.
Sally’s spirit will live on in each and every life she has touched, and her legacy of love will flourish in the hearts of all who loved her.
A family memorial celebration of life will take place at Canada Creek Ranch this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Angelcheeks Foundation, the fund created when Sally’s precious Evan went to Heaven, that supports families who experience the untimely loss of their infant child at:
