He is survived by: his wife Janel (Sheldon); his children, Jennifer Jo Hughes Fergason (Mark), John A Hughes IV and Stacie Ann Pollentier; his grandchildren, Misha Nicole Gates (Josh), Corey Michael Hughes and John A. Hughes V; his great grandchildren, Aria Gates, Wyatt Gates and Baby; and his cousins, Jan DeBrabander and Kathy DeBrabander.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ingham County Animal Shelter, Capital Area Humane Society or a charity of one's choice in memory of Dick.
