With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Michael James Murphy of Lansing, Michigan, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on January 16, 2025 at the age of 87. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Thomas and Mary Lucille Murphy (Winters); his siblings, Judge Charles Murphy, Dr. Joseph Murphy, Thomas Murphy and Mardy O'Hagan; his niece Dr. Anne Janca; and his nephew Dan Murphy.

He is survived by: his wife Helen Rae Murphy; his children, Elizabeth Letzer-Tycocki (David), Dr. John Murphy, Matthew Murphy (Amber), Timothy Murphy (Samara), Dr. Kevin Murphy (Sarah) and Meghan Sharpe (Michael); and his grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah Letzer, Katelyn Kluemper, Erin Murphy, Addison Murphy, Emma, Samuel Murphy, Bryn, Leah, Anna, Miles Jack Murphy, Ryan, Paige Sharpe and Michael Sharpe III. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23rd 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the St. Gerard Catholic Church (4437 W Willow Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917). A rosary will be held on Thursday, January 23rd 2025 at 7:30 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 24th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, January 24th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Evergreen Cemetery (2600 E Mt Hope Ave, Lansing, MI 48910).

The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Gerard Catholic Church, St. Vincent DePaul, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
