It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John F Mertz of Lansing, Michigan, who passed away on June 19, 2022, at the age of 73, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Mertz and Mary Jane Mertz (Castrop); his brother William "Bill" Mertz; and his grandson Sullivan Arlen. He is survived by: his sibling Phi Kappa Theta; his daughters, Meredith Mertz (Benjamin Payne) and Erica Mertz (Matt Ohrstrom); his siblings, Carol Olmstead, Peter Mertz (Carolyn) and Mary Mertz-Smith (Gavin Smith); his grandchildren, Jameson Arlen, Adrian Mertz, Lucas Ohrstrom, Jasper Arlen, Coraline Arlen and Remington Payne; the mother of his children Heather Wing (Rob); and his pet Goody. He is also survived by nephews and nieces and a great-niece and great-nephew.
In lieu of flowers, John's daughters are accepting contributions towards constructing a memorial bench at Soldan Dog Park.
