He was predeceased by: his parents, Dessie Couthen and Butler Couthen; and his siblings, Ollie Mae Couthen, Henry Couthen, Ernest Keith and James Lee Couthen.
He is survived by: his wife Lillian Couthen of Lansing, Michigan; his children, Arthur Couthen (Mable), Larry Couthen (Kim), Greg Couthen, Carey Couthen, Steven Couthen (Ada), Robert Couthen (Angela), Dessie Couthen (Nene), Diane Couthen, Michelle Couthen and Elaine Couthen; his stepchildren, Lonya Crockette and Ayten Crockette; and his siblings, Bobbie Jean Green, Alexander Cauther (Valda), Perry Ransom, John Couthen, John Williams and James Williams (Julia). He is also survived by many other family members and friends, including many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
