He was predeceased by: his parents, Victor Haener and Katherine Haener (Schratz). He is survived by: his sister Pat Thiesen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Fr. Haener has requested memorials be made to Angela Hospice in Livonia, MI or Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, MI.
