He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Plante Jr. and Mildred Plante (Laurie); his grandparents, Charles, Emma Laurie (Langen), Emil and Blanche Plante (O'Neil); his uncle Donald (Eleanore); his cousin Jerry Laurie; and his close friends, Roger Kinonen (Joyce) and Bill Mabee (Ichiko).

He is survived by: his aunt Barbara Laurie, RN of Laurium; his wife Carol Hoffman; his children, Christopher (Lori) of Green Bay, WI, Craig of Calumet, Brenna Zavadsky (Dean) of Shakopee, MN and Dr. Brandon Plante of Marshall, MI.; his aunt Eleanore Laurie (Donald) of Lake Linden; his cousins, Don (Lynn), Terry Laurie (Lori), Doug and David Martin; and his grandchildren, Alexii Plante, Thomas Plante of Salem, OR, Samantha Plante of Hancock, Keira, Kyle, Ian Zavadsky, Emily and Jacob Plante of Battle Creek, MI..
