Robert A. Preston Sr. Obituary
Robert "Bob" A. Preston Sr., a cherished family man, esteemed colleague, and passionate enthusiast of historical reenactment, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, at Horizon of Gladwin. Born on August 26, 1943, in Jackson, Michigan, to the late Russell Preston & Dorothea (Moffett) Dwight, Bob's life was marked by his adventurous spirit, gentle heart, and unwavering kindness.
Bob spent his formative years in Onondaga, where he was raised alongside his half-sister's, Florence, Pat, Jeanette, and Donna. His strong work ethic was evident early on, as he dedicated 38 years of his life to Michigan Packaging and served as a skilled equipment operator for several farms in the Onondaga and Rives Junction areas. Bob's commitment to his work was paralleled only by his devotion to his love of competing and a job well done.
Bob was father of Judy (Drew) Heaton and Robert Jr. "Rob" (Melissa) Preston. He was a doting grandfather to two granddaughters, Marissa Baker and Beth (Cliff) Anderson, and he cherished the moments spent with his five great-grandchildren. Bob's family extended to his beloved grand dog, Peanut, who was a constant companion and source of joy.
Bob's interests were as unique as they were engaging. A member of the North-South Skirmish Association (NSSA) since 1979, he relished in the camaraderie and competition that came with shooting muskets and participating in Civil War-era reenactments. His dedication to historical accuracy and love for the sport was evident in his meticulous gunsmithing, reloading shells, and preparing loads for competitions. Bob's hands were rarely still, as he was always working on rifles or perfecting his craft.
Beyond his historical pursuits, Bob was an avid motorcyclist. His most recent pride and joy was his Can-Am Spyder, which he rode with the same adventurous spirit that guided him through life. His rides were not just a pastime but an expression of his free-spirited nature and love for the open road.
Those who knew Bob would describe him as a man of adventure, gentleness, and kindness. His presence was calming, his demeanor approachable, and his willingness to lend a hand was known to all in his community. Bob's adventurous soul led him to explore many paths, while his gentle nature made him a friend to all he met.
As we bid farewell to Robert "Bob" A. Preston Sr., we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love, dedication, and passion. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Bob's journey through life was a testament to the joy that can be found in pursuing one's interests, cherishing family, and embracing every moment with kindness.
