Donald Duchene Obituary
Donald Duchene, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at the age of 79 in his hometown of Bay City, Michigan. Born on August 8, 1945, in the same close-knit community, Donald's life was one marked by dedication, love, and a warm sense of humor that touched all who knew him.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Helen (Shelagowski) Duchene, and their loving children, Don (Melissa) Duchene Jr. and Kimberly (Dan) Whyte. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Katelyn (Zach) Warnement, Kelsey Duchene, Jessica Marcott, Jaycee Marcott, and Kassidy Whyte, as well as five step-grandchildren: Rico, Leandra, Antonio, Hunter, and Xander. He also leaves behind his brothers Len and John (Janine) Duchene; brothers and sisters-in-law Mary Szafranski, Eugene Deford, George (Joyce) Shelagowski, Richard (Jean) Shelagowski, Don (Deb) Shelagowski, Connie (Dave) Bothe, and Karen (Jeff) Roseberry; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Frances Duchene, his in-laws, Art and Dorothy Shelagowski, brother Marv (Martha) Duchene, and sisters-in-law Joyce Deford, Carol, Janice Shelagowski, and Jane Duchene.
Donald's professional life was marked by a successful career at General Motors, where he dedicated many years before his retirement. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were not only evident in his career but also in his service to various associations. As a member of the Linwood Knights of Columbus and the Crump Fox Club, he contributed his time and talents, further enriching the community he held so dear.
An intelligent man, Donald could often be found working on a project or solving a problem, as he was incredibly handy. His family and friends frequently relied on his skills and were never disappointed by the results of his efforts. Donald's sense of humor was one of his most defining characteristics. He had a gift for making people laugh, ensuring that joy was a constant presence in the lives of those around him.
Donald's interests and hobbies were a reflection of his love for camaraderie and shared experiences. Whether it was a social gathering at the club or a family event, he was always at the heart of the festivities, offering a funny anecdote or a helping hand. His presence was a source of stability and happiness for his family, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As the sun sets on a life well-lived, we remember Donald Duchene not only for the roles he played within his family and his community but for the individual he was. Intelligent, handy, and funny, Donald's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless lives he enriched. Though we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the years we were fortunate enough to share with him.

A Funeral service will be on Saturday January 11, 2025 at Rivertown Funeral Chapel at 4 pm. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 am till time of service.
