Barbara Courier Obituary

Barbara L. Courier, age 89 mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Born on January 9, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, Barbara was the cherished daughter of the late Nicholas Kopernik and Valrosa (Trudell) Krawczyk. Her early years in Detroit were the foundation of a life characterized by warmth, generosity, and a profound dedication to her family.

Barbara's heart found its match when she married the love of her life, Louis E. Courier, on June 15, 1953. Their partnership, though tragically cut short when Louis predeceased her on October 4, 1961, was filled with love and set the stage for the family they would build together. Barbara's legacy is lovingly carried on by her seven children: Valerie LaFramboise, Rick (Martha) Courier, Brian (Joni) Courier, David (Kathy) Courier, Bruce (Celeste Bargeron) Courier, Cynthia (Dale) Auger, and Todd (Julie) Mayer. She was the proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren: Talia Raymond-LaFramboise, Lawton (Halie) Eilf, Lindsy (Joshua) Rothe, Brian Courier, Louis Courier, Heather Rice, Ashley (Steve) Sharp, David (Jennifer) Courier, Amber (Justin) Auger, and DJ (Amanda) Auger. Her joy was further multiplied by her 12 great-grandchildren, her step-grandchildren Heath, Micky, and Carlie. Barbara's sister & brothers-in-law; Sandy (Bill) Anschutz, Richard Collins, 4 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her in-laws, Alfred & Alice Courier, and sister-in-law Carol Collins. Barbara's life was also marked by the early loss of her four infant siblings, Beverly, Carl, and twins Nicholas and Michael Kopernik, whose memories she held close to her heart throughout her journey.

Barbara's interests were as nurturing as her personality. She found great pleasure in knitting, reading, crocheting, and doing puzzles, but most of all, Barbara loved spending time with her family. Her home was often filled with the laughter of her children and grandchildren, and the quiet companionship of her beloved cats. These simple joys were the threads that wove the tapestry of Barbara's fulfilling life.

Those who knew Barbara will remember her as the epitome of loving and selfless. Her unwavering support and the gentle strength she provided to her family were her greatest gifts. Barbara's ability to listen, her willingness to help at any moment, and her constant encouragement were the hallmarks of her character.

Per Barbara's request cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home.
