He was predeceased by: his parents, Hiram Herder and Jennie Herder; his wife Lois Miersma; his in-laws, Simon and Alice Miersma; his son-in-law Dean Smelker; his siblings, Nathan (Norma Herder), Bob Herder, Maureen Herder, Roy (Dorothy Soloman), Betty Schippers, Cal (Marguerite Miersma), Dan (Mary Miersma) and Fred (Ruth Hanko); and his great grandchild Kayleigh Herder.
He is survived by: his children, Jim (Lois Herder), Mike (Sue Herder), Joy Smelker, Dave (Julie Herder) and Doug (Cheryl Herder); his grandchildren, Andy, Kara Herder, Bryan, Emily Herder, Scott Herder, Jeff, Tara Herder, Greg, Bethany Herder, Mark, April Herder, Joel, Lauren Herder, Tim, Karli Herder, Serih Smelker, Pam Smelker (John), Dan, Amanda Herder, Jason, Kerri Herder, Alan Herder, Kristen, Mike Yanagisawa, Steph, Nick Byma and Nate Herder (Stephanie Wynia); his great grandchildren, Caleb, Luke, Aubrey, Logan, Kyle, Jackson, Brooklyn, Makayla, Elizabeth, Abby, Levi, Myles, Nick, Kelli, Ryan, Amanda, Cody, Julie, Travis, Garrett, Peyton, Julianna, Emory and Kaden; his brother Paul Herder; and his siblings-in-law, Norma Herder and Clarence Schippers. He is also survived by 5 great-great-grandchildren.
