Susan L. Holdship-Jones Obituary
Age 64, of Kalamazoo, passed away on January 1, 2025. Susan was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on August 9, 1960, the daughter of Thomas Loring and Barbara Leo (Vandemark) Holdship. Susan was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School (Class of 1978) and received her Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate in Tennessee and Michigan.
She was retired from Bronson Methodist Hospital, where she worked for nearly 40 years in various departments. She was known as a dedicated and compassionate nurse and was highly regarded for her care for others in the Interventional Radiology Department and as a mammography nurse in women's health care. She received many commendations for her work while at Bronson and is remembered for her positive spirit.
Sue was talented in many areas but especially in the area of arts and crafts. She loved to paint and create things, including Christmas tree ornaments. Many of her loved ones have paintings in their homes that she made.
She will also be remembered for the incredible Halloween costumes she made for her nephews. Besides her creativity, she excelled at baking and cooking. French bread and spinach pies were just two of her specialties.
Sue was an avid reader and puzzler. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy every night with her dad, whom she had been caring for recently. Sue is survived by her father, Thomas L. Holdship of Niles; sister, Molly Elizabeth (James) Brawley of Niles; nephews, Andrew (Kaitlyn) Brawley and Joshua Brawley; great-nephews, James Patrick Brawley, Wes Bear Brawley; aunt, Mary Atkocunis; cousin, Barb (Paul) Adams; and many friends including her best friend, Darlene (Rick) Wells, Marcia Miyagawa, and Dee and Len, her two very special neighbors.
Sue was preceded in death by her mother.
