Roman Lyszyk Obituary
A Celebration of Life will be held at Skyridge Church of the Brethren, 394 S Drake Rd, Kalamazoo, MI, on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Asheville (NC) Humane Society, World Central Kitchen, or UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), c/o the funeral home.
Roman Lyszyk, age 68, of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away peacefully October 2, 2024, at Rose Arbor residential hospice in Kalamazoo. Death was due to complications of chronic illness and occurred after a brief hospital and hospice stay. Roman was born in Kalamazoo on September 25, 1956, to parents John and Wanda (Woszak) Lyszyk. He graduated from Hackett Catholic High School in Kalamazoo, Class of 1974, where he ran track and participated in several musicals. His favorite high school memory was playing the lead in Camelot. Roman attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College part time and worked various jobs in both Kalamazoo and Portage over his career. His employers included Borgess Medical Center, Bronson Hospital, Pfizer/Pharmacia, and Thermo Fisher Scientific, from which he retired in 2022. Roman enjoyed travel, watching car races, and attending neighborhood parties and potlucks. He also loved comedy and was very good at doing impressions. Pets, both dogs and cats, were a big part of his life. He loved attending musical and theater performances and was extremely proud of his daughter Olivia's accomplishments in those areas. Roman is survived by a daughter, Olivia Lyszyk (Maxx) Maxwell of Grand Rapids, MI; former wife of 31 years and mother of Olivia, Connie (McKee) Lyszyk of Fairfield Glade, TN; brother Eugene (Paula) Lyszyk of Pinehurst, NC; sister Theresa (Richard) Runowski of Fennville, MI; nephew Chris (Jessica) Lyszyk and great nephews Whit and Tyler of Richmond, VA; niece Stephanie (Rob) Dworkin and great-nephew Luke of Myrtle Beach, SC. Roman was preceded in death by his father, John Lyszyk, mother, Wanda Lyszyk, and first wife, Adrienne (Sherwin) Lyszyk.
