He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Edward Maher and Bernice Maher (Dempsey); his wife Rosa Lee Ruby; his children, Katherine Giles (Doug), Jovoane Maher-Lawrence (Mike McGinnis), Michelle Harris (Curtis), Melissa Saugie (Roy), Sonya Boer and Travis Maher (Stacy); his grandchildren, Jennifer, Spencer, Justin, Lewis, Nikki, Josh, Haley, Kenneth, Krystal, Vincent, Kalin, Cameron, Jessica, Cole, Dylan, Lula and Theron; his son Cole Maher; and his grandson Ian Lawrence. He was also cherished by 17 great grandchildren.
