He was predeceased by: his son Erik (Mara). He is survived by: his wife Mara Malcenieks (Skuja); his daughter Tia Sandra Lutz (Malcenieks); his son-in-law Nathan Lutz; and his granddaughter Mara Rose Lutz.

Memorials in his memory may be made to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church of Kalamazoo or the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia in Riga, c/o the funeral home.
