He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Hitchings and Una Hitchings; his wife Dorothy J. McKinney; and his children, Mike Hitchings and Sheryll Cobb.

He is survived by: his daughter Ricci Longman (Dan); and his grandchildren, Dan Cobb (Cheryl), Sarah Smith (Jamie), Darcy Simmons (Josh Gilkey), Michele Beaver, Tammie Bard (Chad), Mikey Hitchings, Jamie Trudeau (Ben) and Bill Cobb. He is also survived by 18 great grandchildren; and many Nieces and Nephews.
