Marvin P. Mulholland Obituary

Because of his Military experience in Viet Nam Marvin has requested to be buried at a national cemetery with his Band of Brothers. Marvin will be buried at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, Michigan with full military honors. Memorial to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Rose Arbor Hospice Center, in c/o the funeral home.

Marvin married Darlene (Kiogima) Mulholland on September 26, 1964, and had four daughters, Deborah (Mulholland) Hamilton (Kevin), Melissa Mulholland, Kimberly Mulholland, and Robin Mulholland during their 60 years of marriage. They had six grandchildren, Samantha (Eric) Perkins, Christianna (Brian) Campagne, Joshua Hamilton (Stephanie), Bailey Gibson, Kiley Gibson, and Chloe Gibson, as well as one bonus granddaughter Jessica (Thomas) Salemy, and great-granddaughter Kalani Campagne. Between them, the family has two master's degrees, seven bachelor's degrees, and two associate degrees. Also, most of them have traveled internationally, a value Marvin instilled in his family and was proud of.

Marvin is preceded in death by his father, Ira Mulholland, and mother, Grace (Paul) Mulholland. Grace helped get the Tribal lands claim court case started. He was proud when decades later as Chairman of the Land Claims Board he helped finish what his mother helped get started.

Marvin is also preceded in death by his in-laws, Dorothy and Archie Kiogima from Petoskey, Michigan.

Marvin served seven years in the Navy with the last year in Viet Nam. He was assigned to the Marine Corps as a hospital corpsman. During his tour, their unit received a unit commendation which reads in part.

While serving with the 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Marine Division FMF, Quang Nam Province, Republic of Viet Nam on 23 February and the 5 days that followed, you experienced the opening phase of the 1969 Tet Offensive. During the morning hours, The Division perimeter was breached by enemy forces in two places, bringing the area under enemy fire and creating a mass casualty situation. In this setting all personnel of the 1st medical battalion responded instantly, reacting with courage, determination, and seemingly endless energy.

Ambulance drivers, shotguns, and corpsmen took their vehicles through fire fights and exploding enemy demolition charges, rendering aid and gathering wounded from the battlefield while under direct enemy fire.
